Ohio’s $14B defense business is at risk without coordinated efforts, industry leaders fear

It may be one of the largest employers in Richland County, but Mansfield Air National Guard Base has had a tough go of things recently.

As many as 20 of the base’s 32 buildings are at or past their operational lives. And at one point this year, half of the eight aircraft in the base’s 179th Airlift Wing were grounded because of severe corrosion to their airframes, Col. Allison Miller, the wing’s commander, told a group of state defense leaders at a conference at Ohio State University Tuesday morning.
